The emerging area of functional bioinformatics is concerned with ontologies (representations) and algorithms for computing biological function. As part of the execution of this Center's mission statement, there is a current effort at building a machine-readable Knowledge Base. The importance of encoding physiological and pharmacological events to this effort cannot be overemphasized. I am, at this time, focused on these aspects of the project. Ligands, both endogenous and exogenous, interact in myriad ways with biomolecules such as proteins, initiating, altering or even terminating diverse physiological processes.
An immediate utility of the overall effort will be the Intergrated Neuroscience Initiative on Alcoholism (INIA).
My pharmacy/pharmacology education is reflected in my career objectives. I intend to be a major contributor to the team effort.
